Family Update #2

Author | Steve

“Blessed are those whose strength is in You, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a place of springs; the autumn rains also cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength, till each appears before God in Zion.” ~ Psalm 84:5-7

God gave that verse to me over ten years ago on the shores of Lake Bridgeport in North Texas. I always loved that phrase “who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.” I don’t know why. Maybe it was because of the adventurous spirit He set inside of me as a young boy – a spirit that had gradually been domesticated.

Well, here we are on pilgrimage and now I’m discovering what strength there is in it as we rely on Jesus in a whole new way. He truly has been faithful to make us not only strong, but to use us as springs of living water to people along the way…and them to us.

GOD-SIGHTINGS

Ellie: “God helped me have fun on the drive to Missouri – it didn’t feel very long.”

Josiah: “God has given us a bigger place to stay this time that feels like our old house.” (all the kids are still in the same room – I guess its just perspective!)

Gabby: “God knows that I like exciting and new things and He keeps giving these to me…like riding a 4-wheeler for the first time and not falling off, getting here safely even though there was lots of flooding, getting to bake like 100 cupcakes for my birthday, and there’s a dog here.”

Austin: “Getting to see my old friends in Ft. Worth. God lined up that it was Spring Break week and gave us time to be together.”

Jamie: This is my God-sighting today…

Steve: God gave me a beautifully overwhelming and interesting mixture of time with dear friends and new acquaintances in Ft. Worth. As He wove each of these people into my life, it was obvious just how much He loves me and is pursuing me….and them.

PRAYER REQUESTS

Ellie: Thankful that God has given us friends on the way. Help us to trust God and to listen for Jesus.

Josiah: That we would keep growing in God and thankful for getting to ride a 4-wheeler.

Gabby: Help me be not as freaked out about the idea of living in an RV (if we end up getting one). Help me not get chiggers or ticks.

Austin: That God would continue to free him from the fears that keep him from experiencing God’s joy and adventure for him. Thankful for the deepening relationship God is giving him with his siblings as their big brother.

Jamie: God’s grace to relish the refreshment without any pressure to produce.

Steve: That we would not succumb to any pressure to hurry God’s sanctifying work in us. Also that when He gives us opportunities to share our story, we would be courageous to do so and would do it in a way that lifts up Jesus and points people to Him, not to us.

NEXT STOP

We are currently staying with Jamie’s aunt and uncle in the simple majesty of the southern Missouri hills. The hills are full of exciting adventures and her aunt and uncle are filled with God’s spirit of hospitality and compassion and are truly a blessing to us. We will be here for almost two weeks before we head to north-central Illinois to see Steve’s sister and family for a few days and then we are on to spend extended time with two of our closest friends who are serving together in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Thanks for checking in again and especially for your prayers. We pray that our faithful Father continues to fill you with His presence and gifts overflowing in courage and faith in your everyday lives. Drop your nets and follow Him!
